5 Reasons to write POSITIVE Yelp reviews
~ 1 Minute 50 Second Read
When you get bad service somewhere your initial thought is to expose it in some way. You will murmur to your friend “Someone’s getting a bad tip.” or “This was awful, I’d give it 2 stars.” Yet, nobody ever thinks to write a positive review about the places they go on the regular. We are returning customers that are satisfied with our product or service yet never express it. Here are 5 reasons why you should leave positive reviews:
1) To help keep your favourite local spots in business.
Sure, you may like that cute, hidden gem of a coffee shop in your city because nobody knows about it and the coffee is exquisite; but how are you going to feel when the owners have to shut down from not enough business? You’re going to miss that fancy brew and wonder how they could’ve avoided this unexpected closure. Writing a positive review will attract more attention. Even if people go test it out for themselves and oppose your opinion. It’s the discussion in itself that will bring the intrigue. All you need to contribute as a satisfied customer is a sentence or two of your thoughts and soon people will be seeking it out on their own. If deemed worthy amongst the crowd; you will have contributed to their growth.
2) Help promote businesses to franchise in new locations.
This is similar but on an even higher level. The Internet is an incredible place to actually make change. You don’t have to get up off your butt to have an impact. All you have to do is start a conversation with like-minded people. There are crowd-funding sites and petitions online that can bring entire communities together. This can too. If enough people were to comment, “Please bring Subway to (insert city here)” someone would eventually have to pay attention. People listen to popular demand and that’s so simple for us to achieve.
3) For the front page features to be based off of your liking.
Websites track everything these days. Think of Analytics. They find your demographic; what websites you look at, your age range, location, etc. and with this information alone there are already enough details to select relative options for you. With the addition of having previously written positive and negative reviews or rated businesses, they are able to narrow down the choices to your specific tastes. This makes finding somewhere new so much more convenient.
4) You get to see what your friends like and are talking about recently.
Sometimes your friends will find a place they like and won’t think to mention it to you right away, (if at all). If you create an account and link it with your other social media you can see what your friends are enjoying. Just make sure it’s someone who’s taste matches your own.
5) You won’t be skeptical about all the vague posts.
We’ve all looked up reviews to find accounts with one name and no photo giving a perfect 5-star rating. This raises questions such as, “Is this a real person or is this just the owner trying to hide behind an alias?” or “Was somebody paid to write this?” If everyone began giving their honest opinion under real account names it would be more reliable and helpful seeking out new places.
Also, everyone has guilty pleasures. People make fun of movie flops such as 1996’s “Jingle All The Way” but I’d be lying if I said I didn’t watch that movie every holiday season. To each their own, you can’t always trust popular opinion. So, don’t let others manipulate your feelings. Write truthful, positive reviews about the places you frequent. It is such a quick but meaningful task and business owners everywhere will thank you.
